The 5-4-3 Double Play | Stacks, Matchups, and Value Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings | July 10

The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked.  We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing.  Our Discord strategy rooms are incredibly active. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
Los Angeles Dodgers
This feels like a really fun leverage spot. Eduardo Rodriguez has actually pitched well this season (maybe above his weight a bit?), so I don’t think many people are going to be looking to stack against him. The problem is…this Dodgers lineup has absolutely owned him over the years, posting a .931 OPS across 162 plate appearances. That’s a meaningful sample against a veteran pitcher, and it’s enough to make me interested even before you factor in how dangerous this offense is every single night. If Rodriguez finally has one of those blow-up starts, you could be getting one of the best offenses in baseball at lower ownership than usual, and that’s always something I’m willing to chase.

San Diego Padres
I’m not sure people have fully caught on to how shaky Shane Bieber has looked since coming back. Fifteen earned runs in 13 innings over his first three starts is about as rough a return as you could ask for, and now he gets a Padres lineup that can make pitchers work from the first hitter to the ninth. If Bieber starts missing spots again, I could easily see San Diego putting together another big offensive night. They’re going to be one of my highest-exposed stacks.

Minnesota Twins
An 8.06 ERA is enough to get my attention every single time. Grayson Rodriguez obviously has the talent to be much better than that, but the results just haven’t been there this season, and until they are, I’m going to keep targeting him. The Twins can be maddeningly inconsistent, but they’re also one of those offenses that can score eight runs before you know what happened when they’re locked in. This feels like one of the better spots on the board, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re one of the highest-scoring teams of the night.

San Francisco Giants
The Giants are one of the first teams that caught my eye. Tanner Gordon is still trying to establish himself in the big leagues, and that’s usually a profile I’m willing to attack with a competent offense. San Francisco has quietly been swinging the bats well for a while now, and this feels like a spot where they can keep that going. If Gordon gets behind in counts or has trouble limiting traffic, the Giants have enough depth to make it a long night. One of my favorite tournament stacks on the slate. I’m slowly coming around to the idea of them being viable on most slates even if they don’t hit a ton of bombs; it’s more of a “death by a thousand cuts” type of thing.

Chicago White Sox
It’s a bigger slate, so here’s a fun one to consider. This is strictly an MME sprinkle, but I think it’s worth mentioning. Aaron Civale has a 5.10 ERA and 1.58 WHIP this season, so while the White Sox aren’t exactly an offense I’m excited to stack, the matchup is better than the team name suggests. Nobody is going to click on Chicago, which is kind of the appeal. You’re simply betting on Civale having another rough outing, and if that happens, the White Sox don’t need to score 10 runs to pay off at microscopic ownership.
