The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked. We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
Atlanta Braves
One of the higher-upside spots on the slate even with Mitch Keller pitching better lately (he still has a 4.35 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the season). He’s been fairly good at limiting damage, but he’s not the type of arm that completely shuts down elite offenses if things get loose. Atlanta’s path is pretty simple here — one or two big innings if Keller loses the zone or starts missing over the plate. One of my favorite stacks and I want exposure because the ceiling is always in play.

Washington Nationals
This is a very playable spot for me against Merrill Kelly, who carries a 5.06 ERA this season. That’s the type of profile where innings can get away quickly once traffic starts building, especially if he’s not putting hitters away efficiently. Washington isn’t consistent enough to trust in cash or small builds, but in tournaments they’re viable because they can string together contact and capitalize when pitchers are off.
Milwaukee Brewers
This is a pretty clean tournament target against Ryan Feltner. He’s had issues with consistency and traffic, and when runners get on, things tend to stack quickly. Milwaukee isn’t the most stable offense, but they’ve got enough pop and athleticism to take advantage if Feltner starts missing spots early. I like them as a secondary stack with legit upside if the innings start to snowball.

New York Yankees
This is more of a talent-side stack than a matchup one. Sonny Gray is a solid arm, but he can blow up occasionally, and the Yankees have enough power and depth to change a game in one or two innings if they get him into trouble. Even when Gray is mostly fine, there’s always a path where a couple mistakes turn into a big inning fast. Not sneaky, but the ceiling is always in play and that keeps them viable in tournaments, and I don’t mind some shares even without Aaron Judge.
St. Louis Cardinals
I like this spot more than I think the field will. Brady Singer has a 5.60 ERA and 1.70 WHIP, and that’s the exact kind of profile I’m willing to target in GPPs. He’s been hittable when he falls behind and doesn’t have the kind of swing-and-miss stuff that bails him out consistently. St. Louis doesn’t need a ton of help to put together a crooked inning if they get runners on early. Strong secondary stack with real upside.
