The focus of this article is to sort through the myriad of options on larger slates and find not only some solid foundational plays but also some spots that could go overlooked. We focus on stacks that are solid for small-field and SE as well as overlooked spots for large-field GPPs, and we discuss players that have good past history vs. the pitchers they’re facing. FIVE DFS MLB Stacks
New York Yankees
This feels like a great spot to get exposure to the Yankees. Rhett Lowder has plenty of talent and a bright future, but he’s still a young pitcher learning how to navigate major league lineups consistently. That’s not an ideal situation against one of the deepest offenses in baseball. New York can beat you with patience, power, or simply by forcing long innings, and if Lowder falls behind hitters early, things could snowball quickly. Strong tournament option with one of the higher ceilings on the board.

Arizona Diamondbacks
Same thing applies for me here as with the Yankees: Connor Prielipp is a talented young arm as well, but he’s still trying to establish himself at the major league level, and that’s usually a profile I’m willing to attack with an offense this deep. The Diamondbacks continue to score runs in bunches and can be a high-upside offense on any given night. If they can get Prielipp into some stressful innings early, this has the makings of one of the better stacks on the slate.
Athletics
I’m going right back to the A’s here. Jose Soriano was scratched last night and is currently day-to-day, which adds another layer of uncertainty to this matchup. Even if he starts, there’s always the possibility that he’s not fully stretched out or doesn’t work deep into the game. The Athletics continue to be one of my favorite GPP offenses because of the power throughout the lineup, and their home park has played much friendlier to hitters than most expected. If Soriano is limited in any way, there’s a lot of upside here.

Baltimore Orioles
This is definitely more of a tournament play, but I think it’s interesting. Roki Sasaki has electric stuff and can absolutely dominate when everything is working, but he’s also still adjusting to major league lineups and has shown some inconsistency at times. Baltimore has enough power throughout the lineup to punish mistakes if Sasaki isn’t locating consistently, and the Orioles are rarely an offense that needs many opportunities to put up runs. Not a primary stack, but one I’ll have some shares of in larger-field tournaments.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Any time any team gets to play in Colorado, they’re going to get my attention. Kyle Freeland continues to be one of the more attackable pitchers in baseball, and the altitude only makes things tougher on a pitcher who’s already struggled to keep runs off the board. Pittsburgh isn’t an offense I trust every night, but this is exactly the type of environment where they can outperform expectations. If Freeland runs into traffic early, this game has the potential to get out of hand in a hurry. One of my favorite tournament spots on the slate.
