NHL Building Blocks – April 19
The playoffs are here! We’ve got two games to kick off the postseason. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – April 19
The Goalie: Connor Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck is going to be looking to exorcise his and the Jets’ playoff demons: he went 1-4 with a 5.23 GAA and .864 save percentage last season, and the Blues were one of the hottest teams down the stretch. Still, Winnipeg was the best team in the regular season (though we can’t discount the President’s Trophy curse), so there’s some reason to be encouraged.
The Center: Nathan MacKinnon
Should be rested and energized for a deep playoff run. Four goals and seven assists during an eight-game point streak.
The Wing: Kyle Connor
Great offensive ability (41 goals and a ton of shots) and is gritty. Needs to step up and lead.
The Defenseman: Josh Morrissey
Will be nearly as valuable to his team as Makar is to his, and he’ll be less owned in a better spot.
The Value: Gabriel Landeskog
One of the best stories in recent memory; could play tonight or be saved for later in the series.
The Stack: COL (MacKinnon-Necas-Nichushkin-Makar)
This grouping might have the highest upside on this slate, and Dallas has been slumping even though they’re at home for the first two games, so I’m leaning here as perhaps a little bit of leverage (and Mac and Makar are rested after sitting the last couple of games of the regular season). Mix in Nelson, Lehkonen, and Drouin as secondary pieces. Oh…and don’t forget the return of Gabriel Landeskog (who you’ll want some exposure to as well if he’s in, which we haven’t heard one way or the other yet).
