NHL Building Blocks – March 5
Five games tonight to get us through the mid-week doldrums. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – March 5
The Goalie: Kevin Lankinen
Lankinen (20-10-7 / 2.57 / .904) signed a five-year contract a couple of weeks ago, and he’s continued his solid play; he’s been solid all season as seemingly Vancouver’s top option in net. The Canucks have the best matchup on the slate, hosting the Ducks and their league-worst offense, so he should be popular.
The Center: JT Miller
Five goals and five assists during his six-game point streak, and he’s fitting in with the Rangers nicely (14 points through 11 games).
The Wing: Brady Tkachuk
Leads the team with 23 goals and is third in the league in shots with 242 (over four per game). Great spot against a bad Blackhawks defense.
The Defenseman: Quinn Hughes
The only Canuck who’s doing anything this season, notching 60 points (23 points more than second place) in 50 games, and they get the Ducks tonight. (He is day-to-day, so watch for the starting lineup.)
The Value: Nils Hoglander
L1/PP1 for cheap; good matchup and should see more ice time with Suter potentially being dealt today.
The Stack: OTT (Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux)
This group will be popular as the Blackhawks’ defense is not good, allowing the third most goals in the league. Chicago has scored 16 goals in its last three games, so their hot streak could keep this game competitive, which ups the Sens’ ceiling more. Mix in Batherson and Sanderson as secondary pieces.
