NHL Building Blocks – March 3
We’ve got six solid games tonight to kick off the week, including Ovie with an outside shot at getting to within single digits of The Great One. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – March 3
The Goalie: Anthony Stolarz
Has been great (13-5-2 / 2.21 / .927) as the Leafs’ backup this season, and he gets possibly the best matchup on the slate tonight hosting the lowly Sharks.
The Center: Nick Suzuki
Three goals and six assists in his last five games; Canadiens have won four in a row, and this game should be a good environment for scoring.
The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
Ovie is now 11 goals shy of the record, and he’s at home tonight. Five goals in his last four games, and the Caps will continue to feed him the puck. Ottawa’s defense is solid but inconsistent, and he’ll be popular as his floor is good at the very least.
The Defenseman: Seth Jones
Traded to Florida over the weekend, he’s got a solid floor and will be needed in this intrastate rivalry, especially as the Bolts’ offense is one of the best in hockey.
The Value: Mackie Samoskevich
Moves up to L2 and will see extra time (including on PP2) with Tkachuk out.
The Stack: LAK (Kopitar-Kempe-Fiala)
There are higher-upside and flat-out better offenses on the slate tonight (Toronto against the Sharks immediately comes to mind), but the Kings provide great ceiling given the matchup against a bad Blackhawks defense and gives you a way to get different while still grabbing some upside potential.
