NHL Building Blocks – February 9
Two games remain before the league breaks for the Four Nations tournament. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – February 9
The Goalie: Charlie Lindgren
Having a nice season in DC (12-9-3 / 2.63 / .902) as Washington’s backup; Utah’s offense is solid, but it’s not elite, and the Caps are at home today.
The Center: Brayden Point
Leads the team in goals with 29 and is shooting a remarkable 23.6%. Tampa Bay gets a Canadiens team that has allowed the fourth most goals in the league on the sixth-most shots per contest.
The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
16 goals away from the record and he gets a Utah team that’s not terribly intimidating defensively.
The Defenseman: Mikhail Sergachev
Among the league leaders in ice time at just under 26 minutes per game; he’s got 34 points in 49 games and will be needed all over against a Caps team that’s scored more goals than any team in hockey.
The Value: Darren Raddysh
On PP1 with the big boys.
The Stack: TB (Kucherov-Point-Guentzel-Hagel)
The highest-upside offense on the slate even without Point. They’ve got 105 goals between them (Hagel has the fewest with 24), and the Canadiens allow the fourth most as a team in hockey. Even a two-stack gets you access, so that could be enough to get you different, but on a small slate, you sort of want to pay for points, and this trio has the best path. Cirelli is a great secondary piece as he’s got 19 goals on his own. They did play yesterday afternoon, so keep that in mind as well.
