NHL Building Blocks – February 8
Saturday brings us the last large slate (10 games) before the league takes a break for the Four Nations tournament. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – February 8
The Goalie: Darcy Kuemper
Kuemper (16-6-6 / 2.19 / .919) is one of the main things going right in Los Angeles this season as he leads a defense that has allowed the fewest goals in the league. Tonight they host the Ducks who have scored the fewest goals in the league. Everything about this says success for him and the Kings.
The Center: William Nylander
Five goals in his last five games and leads the Leafs in both goals (33 goals in 54 games, second in the league) and shots (184), so the floor and ceiling are both good here. Center-eligible on FD.
The Wing: Matthew Tkachuk
The hard-nosed winger is playing very well lately, notching six goals and adding four helpers in his last five games, and the Panthers host the Senators tonight (along with Matthew’s brother Brady, so he’ll want to step up for some bragging rights).
The Defenseman: Jake Sanderson
Possibly the hottest defenseman right now (three goals and five helpers in his last five games), and the Sens are on the road against a high-upside offense, so he’ll be needed in both ends.
The Value: Andrei Kuzmenko
First game with his new team and he’s got talent; Pittsburgh played last night as well.
The Stack: FLA (Reinhart-Tkachuk-Barkov)
Each of these three have a five-game point streak going on, having combined for 10 goals and 17 assists between them during that span. The Senators haven’t been playing a ton of defense recently, either, so I like rolling with the hot hand here. Mix in Verhaeghe (four goals and three assists over his past five games as well).
