NHL Building Blocks – February 7
Friday this week brings up a nice and tidy five-gamer. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – February 7
The Goalie: Igor Shesterkin
Shesty (18-18-2 / 2.86 / .906) hasn’t had the best season by his standards, but tonight he gets possibly the best matchup on the slate as Pittsburgh’s offense is anemic right now (18 goals over their past 10 games), and as they rank in the middle of the pack in goals and shots over the course of the season, he’s got a solid floor with some good upside, and that’s what we’re looking for; plus, he’s at home.
The Center: Mark Scheifele
Four goals and three assists over his last five games, and he also leads the team in goals with 31. the Jets get a good matchup tonight, and he’s a way to get different from some of the other higher-profile (and chalkier) centers.
The Wing: Artemi Panarin
Had a goal last game and has gotten rejuvenated (along with the rest of the team) with the acquisition of his new linemate JT Miller. Pittsburgh gives up nearly the most goals in the league, so he should have ample opportunity tonight.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Great spot for him tonight in what is the marquee game on the slate. Second among defensemen in scoring and has possibly the highest ceiling of any blueliner.
The Value: Simon Holmstrom
Tough matchup, but PP1 and has three goals and three helpers in his last five games.
The Stack: EDM (McDavid-Hyman-Arvidson)
In what is set up to be an exciting matchup, I like the home team here as the upside of the first two is possibly higher than any duo in hockey, and Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins are your secondary pieces.
