NHL Building Blocks – February 2
We’ve got six games on this Sunday main slate, which is one of the larger ones we’ve had this season on a Sunday. Where do we start? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – February 2
The Goalie: Jake Oettinger
Should be the popular goalie on the slate as not only have the Stars been playing well, Oettinger (26-11-1 / 2.32 / .912) continues to backstop one of the league’s best defenses (the Stars have allowed just 126 goals through 51 games, the third fewest in hockey). Columbus plays a wide-open style, but I like the home goalie in this one.
The Center: Roope Hintz
Playing extremely well lately (three goals and five assists during a four-game point streak), and the Blue Jacket defense is suspect. Good spot for him tonight.
The Wing: Matthew Tkachuk
Two goals and five assists over his past five games, and he always plays physical hockey. Isles’ defense isn’t anything special.
The Defenseman: Quinn Hughes
Regardless of the turmoil and turnover, he’s one of the most consistent and dialed-in players in the league; eight-game point streak (five goals and seven assists) and leads the team in scoring by a wide margin. The captain and reigning Norris winner will need to step up his game to help his team right the ship.
The Value: Marco Kasper
Has thrived up on the top line with Larkin and Raymond.
The Stack: DAL (Robertson-Hintz-Johnston)
The Stars are usually one of the most deep teams in the league, but their offense can be streaky at times, so you want to grab them when they’re playing well, and this is one of those times. These three have combined for 10 goals and 12 assists in their past five games, and they should have some great chances against a young and wide-open Columbus team.
