DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel – February 1

NHL Building Blocks – February 1

The first day of February brings us a solidly-sized seven-game main slate.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – February 1
The Goalie
: Pyotr Kochetkov
Kochetkov (19-9-3 / 2.47 / .903) has been very good all season as Carolina has been without Fredrik Andersen, and it will be interesting to see how they divide starts going forward.  Aside from a couple of players, the Kings’ offense is not good (fourth-fewest goals in the league while scoring just 15 goals in their last 10 games), and the Canes are at home in this one as well with Los Angeles coming east three time zones.

The Center: Sidney Crosby
The Pens’ season hasn’t gone at all the way they hoped, but Sid still continues to play at a high level; he’s got four goals and two assists in his last five games, and the matchup is a decent one as well, so he could provide some leverage against chalkier options (and the game environment is nice as well).

The Wing: Filip Forsberg
Five goals and six assists in his last five games and is playing like we’re accustomed to seeing him play; Pittsburgh allows the second most goals in the league, so his floor should be secure and his ceiling should be high.

The Defenseman: Victor Hedman
Still playing well (40 points in 48 games while skating 23 and a half minutes a night), and the Bolts are in a good spot tonight.  One of the higher floor/ceiling options tonight.

The Value: Jackson Blake
L1 with Aho and Rantanen; sees PP2 time as well.

The Stack: NSH (Forsberg-Marchessault-Stamkos)
Pittsburgh has one of the league’s worst defenses (second most goals and fourth most shots per game), so this sets up well for a Predators team that has turned things around offensively over the last month or so.  Seven goals and 21 points have come from this trio over the past five games.
