NHL Building Blocks – January 6
Four games tonight to start off the week. A couple of teams stand out, but is that where we should focus? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 6
The Goalie: Jacob Markstrom
Good spot on the road for Markstrom (19-8-2 / 2.18 / .911) who is fitting in well in his first season in New Jersey. The Canadiens are a bottom 10 team offensively, but they can go off from time to time; still, there’s a good deal of confidence from me here on this small slate.
The Center: Nathan Mackinnon
The league’s leading scorer at home against a team making a two-time zone trek into the altitude and that has allowed the ninth-most goals in the league this season.
The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
Four goals in his last five games and is in a good spot…hard not to consider him strongly.
The Defenseman: Vince Dunn
Playing a ton of minutes and has 18 points through 20 games (also 27 blocks and 42 shots); should have a good floor against a tough Devils offense.
The Value: Mackie Samoskevich
Still up on PP1 with the big boys; Colorado hasn’t fully solved its defensive issues.
The Stack: VAN (Miller-Boeser-Debrusk)
Will be cheaper and slightly overlooked compared to a couple other stacks on the slate; 36 goals between them on the season. Mix in Garland and Suter as secondary pieces.
