The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 5
The Goalie: Jonas Johansson
Will be a popular choice on this small slate even though they played last night: the Ducks’ offense is just about the worst in the league. He’s been solid (4-2-1 / 3.00 / .900) as the Bolts’ backup, and I don’t mind him here as not only is the matchup favorable, he also has the slate’s highest upside offense in front of him in support.
The Center: Sidney Crosby
The Pens have been playing much better of late, and they get the Hurricanes on the second half of a back-to-back and who are trotting out their backup. Sid continues to play his usual elite level, averaging over a point per game on the season.
The Wing: William Nylander
23 goals to lead the Leafs’ high-powered offense; they played last night, but the Flyers’ defense isn’t all that intimidating.
The Defenseman: Noah Dobson
Good floor against a tired Bruins team that played yesterday in a 10-goal slugfest against the Leafs.
The Value: Michael Bunting
Four goals and two assists in his last five games and could go overlooked in this matchup.
The Stack: CAR (Aho-Necas-Svechnikov-Jarvis)
Mix and match these four against the team that has allowed the most goals in the league. This game has some shootout potential, and even on smaller slates, the Hurricanes tend to go overlooked somewhat.
