NHL Building Blocks – January 31
There are some great games on this Friday four-gamer, but do those games lend themselves to good DFS play? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 31
The Goalie: Mackenzie Blackwood
Blackwood (10-5-2 / 2.28 / .918 with the team) has stabilized at the very least the Colorado net situation, and it’s allowed them to feel more secure as a contender overall. He should be fairly popular on this small slate as the St. Louis offense ranks in the bottom 10 of the league (and they’re also in Colorado in the altitude).
The Center: Tage Thompson
25 goals in 45 games (and 44 total points) and has really nice upside; the Predators’ defense isn’t super strong, so he’s a nice pivot from some of the chalkier options here.
The Wing: Filip Forsberg
Five goals and six assists in his last five games and has turned the corner since his (and his team’s) super sluggish start. Good matchup tonight as well.
The Defenseman: Quinn Hughes
Still continuing to be in the discussion as the league’s best defenseman: five goals and six assists during his seven-game point streak and leads this team in scoring. Tough matchup, so he’ll be essential all over.
The Value: Danton Heinen
Skates on L1 with Boeser and Miller; plays all three situations.
The Stack: COL (Mackinnon-Necas-Drouin)
Necas is fitting in well thus far slotting up on Mac’s line, and this trio should be one of the higher-upside stacks going forward. St. Louis’s defense doesn’t intimidate at all, and in the altitude, that favors the home team. Makar is always viable as part of this group as well, and Lehkonen is a nice value option as he’s on L1 with Mac and Necas while also playing all three positions.
