The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 30
The Goalie: Dustin Wolf
Wolf (18-8-2 / 2.56 / .915) has been exceptional in his rookie season, perhaps taking the lead in the Calder race. The Flames’ offense has done enough to keep them in the race, but he’s been the main reason why they’re vying for a playoff spot. They get the Ducks tonight, who have the worst offense in the league. Roster comfortably.
The Center: Connor McDavid
The best player in the world has four goals and four helpers in his last five games, and he’s at home against a below-average Red Wings defense.
The Wing: Mikko Rantanen
Should be a good spot for him to break out with his new team: the Blackhawks’ defense is bad.
The Defenseman: Zach Werenski
Leads the team in scoring and shots on goal; will be a tough matchup, so he’ll be present all around, which gives a good floor as well.
The Value: Marco Kasper
Four goals and an assist in his last five games; on L1 with Larkin and Raymond and in a good game environment.
The Stack: MIN (Boldy-Rossi-Zuccarello)
The Wild will be without Kaprizov for the forseeable future, but this is still a plus spot for them tonight as the Canadiens allow the sixth most goals and the sixth most shots per game in the league. 47 goals between them (and that’s with Zuccarello missing 14 games). Little bit of a matchup play, but there’s good upside and will provide a little bit of leverage off some of the chalkier stacks.
