NHL Building Blocks – January 28
Tuesday night brings us a great-sized slate of eight games. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 28
The Goalie: Logan Thompson
Not sure how Thompson (22-2-3 / 2.09 / .925) isn’t getting more attention, but he’s been incredible in his first season in DC. The Caps are on the road tonight, but the Flames, their opponent, have scored the fourth fewest goals in the league.
The Center: Sebastian Aho
Always has a decent floor as he plays all three situations, but he’s been reinvigorated with Rantanen’s (his countryman) addition. The Rangers have been much better lately, but the team’s leading scorer’s upside is now increased, so I don’t mind some exposure here.
The Wing: David Pastrnak
Seven goals and 10 assists during a seven-game point streak and is playing like his usual elite self. Buffalo’s defense is just not good (they’ve given up the fifth most goals in the league this season), and he shoots a ton, so his floor is solid as well.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Five goals and an assist over his last five games and continues to have a great floor/ceiling.
The Value: Jackson Blake
L1 with Aho and Rantanen; also sees PP2 time.
The Stack: TB (Kucherov-Point-Guentzel)
Will be a chalky stack, but with good reason: Chicago’s defense is awful (third most goals allowed on the third most shots per game), and Tampa’s offense has as high an upside as any team (second most goals and the second-best power play). Hagel and Cirelli are great (and less expensive) pieces to mix in with these three.
