NHL Building Blocks – January 27
Five games tonight kick off the week. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 27
The Goalie: Jacob Markstrom
Markstrom (21-9-5 / 2.20 / .912) will be a popular choice tonight as the Flyers’ offense is middle of the pack and New Jersey’s defense is solid (allowing the fourth fewest goals in the league); additionally, he’s got a high-upside offense in front of him for support. Even on the road, I don’t mind shares of him here.
The Center: Leon Draisaitl
Carrying the load while McDavid was out (and arguably all season as well), but he’s always in play regardless; four goals and five assists in his last five games.
The Wing: Adrian Kempe
Playing well of late, scoring four goals and adding a helper over his last five games; the Wings’ defense doesn’t intimidate.
The Defenseman: Quinn Hughes
Leads the team with 54 points in 44 games (and scored twice last game); about the only Canuck playing well right now, but he is the reigning Norris winner, and the matchup is solid as well.
The Value: Danton Heinen
Skating even strength with Boeser and Miller; plays all three situations.
The Stack: PIT (Crosby-Rust-Rakell)
The Pens continue to be in the mix for a playoff spot, and in this battle of two bad defenses, I’ll lean toward the team with the future HOFer. The Pens’ scoring is concentrated around these three; mix in Malkin as a secondary piece.
