DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel – January 19

NHL Building Blocks – January 19

We wrap up the week with two interesting matchups tonight.  There are some good spots and some possibly overlooked plays as well.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – January 19
The Goalie
: Jake Oettinger
The Stars get the Red Wings on a back-to-back tonight, and Oettinger (22-10-1 / 2.30 / .912) has been his usual stellar self.  I don’t mind him in any format even with Detroit playing well lately; the Stars’ defense is one of the best in the league.

The Center: Wyatt Johnston
Five points in his last three games and is starting to heat up; Wings should be tired.

The Wing: Lucas Raymond
Five goals and eight assists during his eight-game point streak; the Wings are on a back-to-back against a tough Stars defense, but he’s been hot, and on a two-gamer, I don’t mind going with a streaky player.

The Defenseman: Lane Hutson
He’s starting to take over as the best defenseman on the team; he’s got a goal and 10 assists during a seven-game point streak, and even though Montreal is on a back-to-back, he’ll be needed all over.  Could be the frontrunner for the Calder.

The Value: Marco Kasper
Six points in his last five games; L1 with Larkin and Raymond.

The Stack: MON (Caufield-Suzuki-Laine)
Two-gamers mean you need to get a little different, and I think people will go to either team from the other game on the slate or look at the Rangers simply because Montreal’s defense isn’t that good, but I’m thinking this could be a solid leverage spot.  There’s good ceiling here with these three as they can score (37 goals between the first two, and Laine has 10 of his own in just 16 games).  Mix in Hutson (the third-leading scorer on the team) and Slafkovsky as both of them are on L1/PP1 together.
