DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel – January 18

NHL Building Blocks – January 18

This Saturday slate features 11 games with a lot of good offenses in play, including an always-must-watch matchup between Sid and Ovie.  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – January 18
The Goalie
: Connor Hellebuyck
If he keeps playing like he is (28-6-2 / 1.97 / .929), Hellebuyck is going to move into the Hart conversation if he’s not already there.  Calgary has scored the second fewest goals in the league, and Winnipeg is at home.

The Center: Sidney Crosby
We’re not going to get too many more of these matchups as both are getting up there in age, but Sid and Ovie always show up for each other.  Crosby continues to be his usual stellar self, notching 48 points through 46 games.  Pens are on a back-to-back, but in this case, it doesn’t bother me.

The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
He’s 21 goals away from the record, and he always gets up when he faces the Penguins.  21 goals in just 29 games (that’s good for 11th in the league despite missing 17 games).

The Defenseman: Lane Hutson
He’s starting to take over as the best defenseman on the team; he’s got a goal and nine assists during a six-game point streak, and even though it’s a bit tough of a matchup, he’ll be needed all over.  Could be the frontrunner for the Calder.

The Value: Marco Kaspar
Three goals and three assists in his last five games; up on L1 with Larkin and Raymond.

The Stack: TOR (Matthews-Nylander-Marner)
Tavares is out, but that’s okay as the scoring gets a bit more consolidated, and it’s a really nice matchup against a bad defense.  40 goals between Nylander and Marner, and Matthews has six goals in his last seven games (and 17 through just 31 games).  Knies and Pacioretty are solid secondary pieces to mix in.
