NHL Building Blocks – January 16
We’ve got a large 13-gamer tonight. These slates can be overwhelming as we have lots of choices, so let’s figure out where we should start. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 16
The Goalie: Connor Hellebuyck
Continues to be the best goalie in the league, Hellebuyck (27-6-2 / 1.99 / .929) and the Jets are at home in one of the better matchups tonight as the Kraken come into town. The Jets are fresh off a shutout of Colorado, and their defense is elite as well.
The Center: Adam Fantilli
Has been playing very well lately (three goals and four assists during a six-game point streak) and the Blue Jackets get a good matchup. Will be cheaper than a lot of the other centers as well.
The Wing: Sam Reinhart
Two goals last game to bring him to 27 on the season (second in the league), and the Panthers are at home against a Red Wings defense that is average at best.
The Defenseman: Lane Hutson
He’s starting to take over as the best defenseman on the team; he’s got a goal and eight assists in his last five games, and even though it’s a tough matchup, he’ll be needed all over (and can save you a little salary).
The Value: Marco Kaspar
Two goals and two assists in his last five games; up on L1 with Larkin and Raymond.
The Stack: WPG (Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi-Ehlers)
These four (along with the whole team) are rolling, scoring 12 goals and adding 12 helpers over their past five games, and even though there might be some better stacks in better spots, they’ve got momentum. Mix and match.
