NHL Building Blocks – January 15

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 15
The Goalie: Pyotr Kochetkov
Should be the chalk goalie on the slate as he has the best matchup on the slate: Buffalo’s offense is middle of the pack, but Carolina’s defense is very good (they allow the eighth fewest goals on the second fewest shots per game). Kochetkov (16-9-2 / 2.54 / .901) has had a very nice season, and I think that should continue tonight.
The Center: Leon Draisaitl
Might be obvious, but he’s worth it on a small slate just to pay for points; three goals and four helpers over his last five contests and continues to lead the league in goals with 31.
The Wing: Mats Zuccarello
Little way to get different from some of the other higher-profile wingers; three goals and five assists in his last five games and has seen his ice time increase in Kaprizov’s absence.
The Defenseman: Rasmus Dahlin
He’s got a great floor on most every slate, and facing a tough Carolina team, there’s no exception.
The Value: David Jiricek
Seeing time in all three situations for cheap; nice one-off option.
The Stack: CAR (Aho-Jarvis)
Nice upside for these two in a good spot; they’ll be less attractive than the Oilers’ studs, but they produce well (26 goals between them) and they also correlate in all three situations. Necas and Svechnikov are your secondary pieces to mix and match with.
