NHL Building Blocks – January 10
Nice slate of five games tonight, including a couple of teams with some momentum. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – January 10
The Goalie: Cam Talbot
Matchup play here as the Wings are at home against a Blackhawks team that’s scored the second fewest goals of any team in the league. Talbot (8-9-2 / 3.03 / .903) has been solid, but in this Original Six rivalry, I don’t mind him, especially on a smaller slate.
The Center: Dylan Larkin
Five goals and three assists in his last five games, and he leads the team in goals with 17. Good spot for him tonight.
The Wing: Alex Ovechkin
Ovie is closing in on Gretzky’s record, and he’s in a prime spot to get closer tonight as the Canadiens have allowed three and a half goals per game (and the sixth most total in the league).
The Defenseman: Quinn Hughes
Three assists in the two games back from injury (also seeing 27 minutes in those; both overtime games) and leads the team in scoring with 45 points.
The Value: Jonathan Lekkerimaki
Skating on L1 with Miller/Boeser (and also sees PP2 time).
The Stack: DET (Larkin-Debrincat-Raymond-Kane)
The Wings are hot, winning five straight games, and they get an Original Six rivalry matchup tonight. These four can be mixed and matched as Detroit’s scoring revolves around them (59 of the team’s 109 goals come from this quartet; additionally, they’ve combined for 15 goals over their last five games).
