Part the Cloud: A Deep Dive into Wide Receivers and Defensive Schemes for Week 17 Main Slate

Welcome back to “Part the Cloud”, where we’ll take a deep dive into defensive coverage schemes and how we can exploit them to find hidden gem Wide Receivers.

GOTTA KNOW WHERE YOU’VE BEEN…

Here’s a look back at my plays from Week 16:

  • Malik Washington
    • DKFP: 5.8 (1.3x)
    • FDFP: 4.3 (0.7x)
  • Wan’Dale Robinson
    • DKFP: 13.2 (3.2x)
    • FDFP: 9.7 (1.9x)
  • Garrett Wilson
    • DKFP: 11.4 (1.7x)
    • FDFP: 9.4 (1.3x)

Wilson and Washington disappointed, plain and simple. Robinson had a pretty good game and was very involved. He had 12 targets to Nabers’s 14. Normally, their split is more stark but he was clearly part of the game plan. A touchdown would have been great, seeing as how 3 of those targets came in the red zone.

…To Know Where You’re Going

This week’s games project for lower scoring so the value floor might be a little higher than normal

Romeo Doubs

DK: $5100 (Projected Ownership: 7.75%), FD: $5600 (Projected Ownership: 9.52%)

I really wanted Watson in this matchup but the knee kept him out of practice all week. While there’s a chance he could go, I will pivot to Romeo Doubs. Over the past month, we have seen more Man Coverage and 1-Hi looks from the Vikings , but they started this season using more Cover 2. Doubs is the guy I would turn to against 1-Hi coverages.

Alec Pierce

DK: $4700 (Projected Ownership: 1.39%), FD: $5600 (Projected Ownership: 1.65%)

Richardson is out and that means we get another look at Joe Flacco. He came in after Richardson got hurt in week 4 and then started weeks 5, 6, 9, and 10. In these weeks, Pierce’s target share increased each week, peaking at 20%. Pittman was out that week so I don’t think we see 20% but we should see a double-digit target share against a defense that struggles to defend passes deep down field. His low catch rate means he will need to catch a big one for a TD but it’s possible given his Corner’s propensity to give up touchdowns.

In Summary

These were spots that jumped off the page for me. If you have any questions for me about the process or other players, my name is TreyJ989 in the channels. Feel free to tag me. Let’s make some bold moves this week!
