Welcome back to “Part the Cloud”, where we’ll take a deep dive into defensive coverage schemes and how we can exploit them to find hidden gem Wide Receivers.
GOTTA KNOW WHERE YOU’VE BEEN…
Here’s a look back at my plays from Week 14:
- Marques Valdez-Scantling
- DKFP: 9.1 (~2x)
- FDFP: 7.1 (1.2x)
- Adam Thielen
- DKFP: 22.2 (4.2x)
- FDFP: 17.7 (3x)
MVS led the team in targets but managed only 4 for 51 in an underwhelming game, as a whole. The game plan was solid but lacked execution. What can you do? Thielen had a fantastic game catching 9 of his 11 targets for 102. It is worth noting that he only had 1 red zone target, though.
…To Know Where You’re Going
It’s big boy time of the season and the big guns find themselves in advantageous situations. There are a few value guys I am looking at this week.
Malik Washington
DK: $3700 (Projected Ownership: 3.32%), FD: $4700 (Projected Ownership: 3.6%)
This is a situation we have been waiting to resolve all week. Jaylen Waddle is out and the way that Miami have been working the ball in recent weeks, appears to be shorter targets over the middle. These routes develop quicker and afford Tua a little more protection against the pass rush. I expect a bump to Jonnu Smith, as well, but the Waddle production these recent weeks needs to go somewhere and I don’t think they will suddenly go back to the deep attack.
Wan’Dale Robinson
DK: $4100 (Projected Ownership: 4.77%), FD: $5100 (Projected Ownership: 3.9%)
I’m sure the narrative will be to get Nabers the ball as much as possible against this Atlanta defense that has seen opposing offenses aim to attack them through the air. In fact, over the last 5 weeks, the Atlanta defense ranks 7th highest in Pass Rate Over Expectation. They are also a stout run defense, so I am looking hard at the receivers today. Wan’Dale makes the most sense to me, especially given their QB situation. Wan’Dale works closer to the line of scrimmage, typically and he excels at running slant and out routes. These types of routes work well against many Zone coverages, as well as in the red zone where he has been doing some of his best work route-running wise. Atlanta is primarily a Zone team that has given up the most touchdowns and 10th most yards to receivers.
Garrett Wilson
DK: $6600 (Projected Ownership: 6.22%), FD: $7100 (Projected Ownership: 8.23%)
I like this spot for Wilson. Adams absolutely ate last week and it overshadowed his performance. I think this is actually a better week for Wilson, whose production has been building for a few weeks now. His skill set projects well against the Rams Cover 3 defense. His price fits a little differently but his CB matchup is good and the Rams do give up touchdowns to receivers. The Jets have also been tossing the ball around more lately than they have been.
In Summary
These were spots that jumped off the page for me. If you have any questions for me about the process or other players, my name is TreyJ989 in the channels. Feel free to tag me. Let’s make some bold moves this week!
