DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel – December 30

NHL Building Blocks – December 30

Three games tonight to start off the last week of 2024.  A few good offenses on the slate, but are those where we should be focusing?  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – December 30
The Goalie
: Connor Hellebuyck
Like Hellebuyck (23-5-1 / 2.06 / .928) in any format on this small slate as not only is he elite (and possibly the best goalie in the league), the Predators’ offense is bad even with some star power.  Winnipeg has also allowed the third fewest goals in the league, and he’s a big part of that.

The Center: Mark Scheifele
Six goals and four assists in his last five games, and the Preds’ defense is not good (especially without Josi in the lineup), ranking in the bottom third in goals allowed and in the bottom 10 in shots allowed per game.  The Jets’ offense should be able to get some quality chances, and he’s got a solid floor/ceiling in this matchup.

The Wing: Jonathan Marchessault
If you’re stacking against Winnipeg (and maybe getting some leverage), March is a great place to start as he’s in the middle of an eight-game point streak, notching eight goals and adding five helpers during that stretch, and he’s looking the best he’s looked since coming over to Nashville in the offseason.  Regardless, on a small slate, a hot player like March is viable.

The Defenseman: Mikhail Sergachev
27 points in 35 games this season while averaging two shots and two blocks per game in just under 26 minutes a night.  Good floor here as Utah is on the road as well.

The Value: Logan Cooley
Little too cheap for his production (goal and four helpers in his last five) and for the matchup.

The Stack: Utah (Guenther-Keller-Cooley-Schmaltz)
On a small slate, there are always ways to get different, and I like going with Utah in this one as they’ll likely be facing Grubauer who just hasn’t been good at all this season (4-10-0 / 3.66 / .873), and they could go underowned compared to a few of the higher-profile stacks.  Mix and match these four as they’ve combined for 35 of Utah’s 103 goals this season.
