NHL Building Blocks – December 3
Great slate of 10 games tonight. We’ve got some good offenses and some interesting matchups, so where do we start? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – December 3
The Goalie: Jeremy Swayman
Great spot for the struggling Bruins as they host the Red Wings, a team that struggles offensively, scoring the fourth fewest goals and averaging the second fewest shots per game.. Boston’s defense is fairly decent, and Swayman (7-9-2 / 3.09 / .893) is looking for a spot to get him and the Bruins back on track in tonight’s home start.
The Center: Nathan Mackinnon
Third in the league in scoring with 36 points (and third in shots on goal with 96 in 25 games), his floor and ceiling are always solid, and he gets a good matchup tonight against a middle-of-the-pack Sabres defense.
The Wing: Sam Reinhart
The league leader in goals with 18, Reinhart faces a Pittsburgh team that has given up the most goals (98) in the league this year. He also plays all three situations. Playable in all formats.
The Defenseman: Zach Werenski
Quickly moving into the top echelon of defenders, Werenski has five goals and 11 helpers during his eight-game point streak, and he leads Columbus in points, shots on goal, and time on the ice. Solid floor and ceiling all around.
The Value: Kasperi Kapanen
Cheap L1 with McDavid.
The Stack: FLA2 (Tkachuk-Verhaeghe-Bennett)
One of the best matchups on the slate as Pittsburgh’s defense is a sieve and Florida’s offense has one of the highest upsides in the league. These three will be a little lower owned than L1, but their production is nearly as good (24 goals between them, led by Bennett’s 12), and the latter two are PP2 together as well. You can also mix in Reinhart and Barkov as secondary pieces.
