Really nice-sized seven-gamer tonight. We’ve got some elite offenses on the slate, but are those where we should live? Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – December 20
The Goalie: Joseph Woll
Great matchup tonight for Woll (9-4-0 / 2.30 / .918) facing a Sabres team that’s playing the worst hockey of any team this season, losing 11 straight games. Toronto’s defense is elite as well. Don’t overthink this one.
The Center: Nathan Mackinnon
The league’s leading scorer (52 points in 34 games) as well as the highest volume shooter (133 shots) gets the best matchup on the slate. Floor and ceiling both make him solid all around.
The Wing: William Nylander
Leads the Leafs’ elite offense with 20 goals (scoring twice last game) and averaging nearly four shots per contest. Great matchup tonight as well.
The Defenseman: Cale Makar
Highest upside of any defenseman on any slate; 38 points in 33 games and averaging three shots per contest as well.
The Value: Anton Lundell
Centering L2 with Reinhart while still playing all three situations; good matchup.
The Stack: TOR (Matthews-Nylander-Marner)
The Leafs’ top line (also together on PP1) get a Sabres team that’s lost 11 games in a row. 40 goals have come from this trio (and that’s with Matthews missing nine games). Tavares/Pacioretty/Knies are solid secondary pieces.
