The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – December 2
The Goalie: Joseph Woll
Like Toronto and Woll (6-2-0 / 2.13 / .923) as the Maple Leafs appear to be legitimate on defense this season (they’ve given up a league-low 57 goals through 22 games), and he is a big reason for that. They are at home against a bad Blackhawks team that is on the second half of a back-to-back tonight.
The Center: Nico Hischier
Hischier is finally playing truly like the #1 pick he was, leading the team in goals (15) and ranking third in points (27) in as many games, and the Devils will be looking to keep their rival Rangers mired in the midst of their slump.
The Wing: Mitch Marner
Marner and John Tavares have developed some good chemistry, and that’s continued even after Auston Matthews’s return as he has five goals and six assists during his current six-game point streak.
The Defenseman: Mikhail Sergachev
Averaging 25 and a half minutes a game as Utah’s top blueliner, and he’s got a solid floor to boot with 16 points in 24 games as well. The Stars are deep and solid in both ends, so he’ll be needed all over tonight.
The Value: Pontus Holmberg
Cheap part of the Leafs’ best duo as of late (Tavares and Marner).
The Stack: TOR2 (Tavares-Marner)
Like this duo a lot tonight as they’ve played well together over the past few weeks; they also are on PP1 together (and you can mix in Matthews and Nylander for that). Holmberg is with them at even strength and kills penalties with Marner, so there’s extra correlation there as well and can work for a smaller (and cheaper) stack.
