Starting Lineup – December 19
The Goalie: Andrei Vasilevskiy
Vas (14-9-1 / 2.41 / .910) is playing very well, and he’s got one of the league’s highest-upside offenses in front of him supporting his efforts. St. Louis comes into town tonight, and their offense just isn’t good, scoring just 84 goals through 33 games, fourth fewest in all of hockey (as well as averaging the fourth fewest shots per contest at just over 26). Solid play here at home.
The Center: Leon Draisaitl
Continues to play extremely well, leading the league in goals with and notching four goals and nine assists in his last five games alone.
The Wing: Mikko Rantanen
Should be able to do whatever he wants tonight against a bad Sharks defense. 18 goals (leads the Avs) and is second in the league in scoring with 47 points.
The Defenseman: Zach Werenski
Tough matchup against a high-upside Devils offense, so he’ll be needed all over, but he’s been up to the task all season, averaging a point a game and leading the Blue Jackets in shots as well.
The Value: Oliver Bjorkstrand
Four goals and two helpers in his last five games and gets a good matchup.
The Stack: NJ (Hughes-Hischier-Noesen)
One of the best offensive matchups on paper tonight against a middling Columbus team. 43 of New Jersey’s 114 goals have come from this trio; mix and match these three with Bratt and Meier.
