NHL Building Blocks – December 17
Solid slate of 10 games tonight. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – December 17
The Goalie: Logan Thompson
One of the best matchups on the slate, Thompson (12-1-2 / 2.45 / .913) has low-key been one of the best goalies in the league this season (his first in DC), and the Caps’ defense has been stellar as well. Chicago’s offense, on the other hand, has not, so even on the road, I don’t mind Thompson at all in any format.
The Center: Jack Hughes
Good upside in this one for Hughes, who’s notched 13 goals and 26 helpers through 33 games while averaging close to four shots per contest.
The Wing: Nikita Kucherov
Three goals and 14 assists during his seven-game point streak. Expensive, but worth it, especially against a Blue Jackets team not exactly known for its defense.
The Defenseman: Jacob Chychrun
Goal and five assists in his last five games and has really brought another offensive level to the Caps’ blueline with 21 points in 25 games.
The Value: Taylor Raddysh
Assists in three of his past four games and skating on the Caps’ top line (as well as PP2) in a good matchup.
The Stack: TB (Kucherov-Point-Guentzel)
They’re expensive, but they’re worth it not just for the matchup but also for the production: they’ve combined for 51 goals on the season. Mix in Hagel (who’s got 17 of his own) and Cirelli as secondary pieces.
