DFS NHL Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel – October 22

NHL Building Blocks – October 22

This is a giant 13-game slate, so there are tons of great matchups and tons of great players in action.  How can we find some spots to attack and some to fade?  Let’s dive in!

The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines.  These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.

Starting Lineup – October 22
The Goalie:
Igor Shesterkin
Shesty has started the season 3-0-1 with a 1.97 GAA and .937 save percentage.  He gets a Montreal team that is averaging just over two and a half goals and 26 shots per game on the season, and while the Rangers allow 31 shots a game, he can grab a game at any time.  New York comes into this one as a -210 favorite as well.

The Center: Auston Matthews
The Leafs are on a back-to-back, but they get arguably the best matchup tonight on the slate.  Matthews is going to shoot and shoot a lot.

The Wing: Artemi Panarin
The Breadman continues to deliver, leading the league with 12 points (including six goals) through five games, and he gets a good matchup tonight against a Canadiens team yielding the fourth most shots per game in the league.

The Defenseman:  Roman Josi
Always one of the league’s best floors regardless of slate or matchup.  Three assists, 21 shots on goal, and 12 blocks through the Preds’ first five games, and they face a very tough Bruins squad, so he’ll be needed all 200 feet tonight.

The Value: Bobby McMann
Always a great value as he’s on L2 with Nylander and Domi while also seeing PP2 time.  Great matchup tonight as well.

The Stack: CAR PP1 (Aho-Svechnikov-Jarvis-Necas-Gostisbehere)
This line has been good all season as the Canes have managed a 25.0% power play thus far, and they’re facing a bad Oilers defense that is also league-worst (55%) at killing penalties.  They may also go overlooked on this huge slate with other more attractive offenses available.
