NHL Building Blocks – October 21
Showdown tonight with two good offenses and two solid goalies. Let’s dive in!
The premise of each article in this series is to feature starting spots (building blocks) for your lines. These are plays that are cash-viable as well as GPP-worthy and can be considered in all contest formats.
Starting Lineup – October 21
The Goalie: Anthony Stolarz
Stolarz has been as good as hoped for when the Leafs signed him, allowing just seven goals over his four starts and seemingly taking hold of the top spot in net. Tampa’s offense is very good, but he also has an elite offense in front of him, and his defense has been solid at limiting chances, ranking third best in hockey in allowing just over 25 shots on goal per game.
The Center: Auston Matthews
He’s got just two goals through the Leafs’ first five games, but he also has 28 shots (nearly SIX per game), so the volume continues to be elite.
The Wing: Nikita Kucherov
A league-leading seven goals on 22 shots through just four games and has picked right up from his scoring title from last season. He’s matchup-proof.
The Defenseman: Victor Hedman
The highest upside on the blue line in this one, Hedman has four assists and is seeing just under 24 minutes a night through four games. He’ll be called upon throughout.
The Value: Oliver Ekman-Larsson
He’s just too cheap for how many minutes he plays and for his level of production. He’s been better than Toronto hoped for as a free agent signing.
The Stack: TOR2 (Nylander-McMann-Domi)
This is a solid way to get different. This trio has six goals and six assists between them, and Nylander gets you exposure to PP1 while the other two are PP2. Can also mix in Ekman-Larsson as he’s L2/PP2 here as well.
