The NHL DFS slate for 11/30 offers a smaller slate of 4 games. And, a slate looking like Toronto and Detroit will be key decisions at first glance. Once again, though, pivots abound! Your ability to assess the risk vs reward for the contests you play is going to be key to your success, especially on smaller slates where the chalk can really concentrate in a few obvious areas.
We have lots of great options for correlating in tournaments, value plays for cash games, and overall ceiling plays that can break a slate. Let’s analyze some of the best plays for today’s slate on either Draftkings or Fanduel.
For more detailed analysis, our Domination Station Optimizer is loaded with both player and ownership projections. And, our NHL Cheatsheets deliver tournament-winning leverage plays from our other NHL coaches in addition to this quick-hitting slate starter.

Goalie – Matt Murray (TOR)
Again? If you read the 11/28 piece, nothing about Murray changes other than the team he faces. SJ might have played last night, but the Sharks have been a top 5 offense the past 3 weeks and are scoring goals right now. TOR’s defense can be suspect, so this might not be the optimal matchup for Murray tonight. Should he get hot, he will definitely face some shot volume. He’s a more speculative threat to be a gpp winner and probably a tad overowned/oversuggested today. Beware.
Wing – Tyler Bertuzzi (DET)
Bertuzzi is popping in optimizers early today. He has been shooting of late, too, putting 11 shots on net in his last four games. But, he is also results-dependent. Tyler requires assists or goals to exceed his price point. He’s a pretty straight forward “low floor, moderate ceiling” play that might be better served in a mini-stack pairing with his opposite winger (David Perron) or his PP2 QB (Filip Hronek – posted fpts over 3x salary value in 8 of his last 10 games!). These are the real damage on DET2. Bertuzzi usually gains spillover production. He’s typically cheap access to one of those two when DET is in a good matchup.
Wing – William Nylander (TOR)
Let me throw another twist at you tonight. Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid are great players (not exactly a hot take). People love to play them. But, they are expensive….almost cost-prohibitive. And, if you take the David Perron/Filip Hronek route, you probably can’t do this either. But, William Nylander is producing! Only twice in his last 10 games has he fallen short of 12 fpts. He has a goal in his last three games and 7 in his last 8.
Mitch Marner pairs better with John Tavares on L2, but they both jump up to the top line when TOR grabs a power play giving a little cross-line access to both stud Maple Leaf centers. Marner, himself, has goals in his last 3 on 13 shots bringing you nearly 20 fpts in those three games. Marner adds to a little floor by blocking shots here and there, too (a quality hard to find in a wing/forward). Use either or both to save a little salary and gain access to Matthews….while gaining the better NHL DFS production as a bonus.
Center – Tomas Hertl (SJ)
I’m not a fan of players on road B2B games, but Hertl has been on absolute fire. For $6300 on Fanduel, it’s hard to ignore his consistency with only one 0 pt performance in the month of November, reaching 2.5x “value” for his salary in 10 of his last 15 games thanks to a 6 G, 13 A binge on 28 shots (10 in his last 2 games!). Compare to fellow top-liner, and $9000 player, Timo Meier and the value is currently slanted in Hertl’s favor like a California mudslide heading for houses.

NHL DFS Stacks for Tonight
Toronto is the obvious. To fade them tonight is maybe taking too much risk for all but the largest field tourneys. Using unique combinations isn’t hard, though. As mentioned above, flanking the wings of the PP1 with Nylander and Marner while fading Matthews is a sweet move. Add in the cheap Mark Giordano or Michael Bunting and you keep the L1 access in tact while only losing a smidge of PP time with that third piece.
It appears the “value stack” to make Toronto work is focusing on the L2 of DET and their matchup vs Buffalo tonight. Buffalo has been generous of late, allowing a NHL 2nd worst 4.11 goals against per game across the last 3 weeks. For the price points, this does put Detroit in a plus matchup. However, I see NHL DFS optimizers punting with L2 center, Michael Rasmussen a lot….too much for my liking. In my opinion, you need a little more firepower in there. If fading Auston Matthews or Connor McDavid tonight, you can likely add David Perron for some upside punch. And, Filip Hronek also makes a lot of sense if you can free up a little more cap space.
If you want to play slightly under the radar tonight (being it looks like TOR is the chalk this morning), focus instead on the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are obviously offensive minded, and their power play is top notch as long as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are living on planet Earth. Whether you play Toronto or Edmonton typically chews up the same amount of salary, so for tournament play and game theory, Edmonton is a simple pivot sliding off the higher owned team of the night and just taking the other. And, as an added bonus, you get the late/hammer game tonight with Oilers, meaning you get to catch your competition from behind instead of sweating all night long and trying to hold on for dear life as the late games end.
