My approach to MLB Showdowns is playing a 20 max contest with 20 entries. However, this article will serve you in whatever format you choose to play, whether a single entry or multiple entries.
Captain Pick
Jon Gray CPT $14,400
Jon Gray comes in with a 524 VK score, which makes him tempting to play as captain as he provides upside of possible strikeout volume while also saving your salary to fit other critical pieces into the flex. Recently, Gray managed to achieve 12 strikeouts against the Rays.
If able to repeat that performance, Jon Gray could find himself the optimal captain choice, and I am here for it!

Flex Picks
Cal Quantrill $10,800
While I love Gray at captin, Cal Quantrill has projected 12.43 Draftkings Fantasy Points closely behind Jon Gray’s projection. By sporting a .300 xwOBA, Quantrill could find himself in the optimal lineup as a captain or flex.
Honestly, I am only not playing him at captain because I would like to save some money and similar upside by playing Gray at Captain.
Kole Calhoun $6,200
Strong projection per dollar play here, and he will complement a script that favors Gray as captain. He has one hit in his last nine at-bats, which makes his floor low, but he also has 7 home runs and 21 RBIs on the season, showing he can hit a high ceiling as well.
Therefore, playing Calhoun as a flex under Gray as captain could pay off nicely if Texas can get their bats going.
Value Pick
Ezequiel Duran $4,000
Duran has two hits in 7 at-bats with one home run as well. I like riding on this guy who has a limited sample to pull from, as this could help us get some leverage on the field in a GPP. Duran is the value play of the day!

The Outcome
Tonight I am banking on a big night from Gray in terms of strikeouts and Texas getting some bats going, as you can see from the flex plays above. However, I think there will be some strikeout accumulated by Quantrill, making him an excellent flex play.
Finally, I will take the under 2.5 runs earned in the first 5 innings as the preferred line to play off of as Gray is the captain play, and I can see the game scoring low.
