UFC BUZZ: Covington Vs. Masvidal
UFC fallout has repercussions felt throughout the MMA community.
The Alleged Masvidal/Covington Incident
Monday March 21, 2022 was at 11pm was when Colby Covington was allegedly attacked by Masvidal outside of Papi’s restaraunt. Furthermore, Colby was reported to have a fractured tooth at the conclusion of being struck 2 times without warning by Jorge Masvidal.
What happened to Colby?
The initial reaction to the incident for me was that Masvidal was a coward for striking Covington without warning. However, according to TMZ sports, Masvidal is quoted in police report saying, “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids?”. Furthermore, a video obtained by TMZ shows Covington confused about Masvidal’s knowledge of his location.
He was talking about Masvidal’s family?!
I have a different spin on this in that I do not mind that Covington got popped in the mouth for talking about someone’s kids. Additionally, I believe Masvidal is setting a bad precedent for young people watching. However, it is more than likely not for the reason you would think.
One of Masvidal’s managers appears to approve of Masvidal’s actions.
Masvidal Was Overly Caring about Covington’s opinions
I have no problem with defending your family’s honor, but let’s take a deeper look at this. What are you projecting to people when you react like this to what someone said? You are actually sending the message that you overly care about what other people think of you. Personally, I would have loved to see him ignore the noise and keep it moving. Why? Not caring is so much more rewarding because it not only drives the antagonist crazy, but also ensures you won’t get arrested! Overly valuing people’s opinions is dangerous, and Masvidal’s arrest is the outcome of him doing just that.
UFC Rematch?
I love the story here, if Masvidal would be able to compete with Colby, however Colby is superior. I mean really, he probably stuck him like that because he knew he would end up on youtube getting his butt kicked taking Colby straight up. Therefore, my guess would be no rematch here, but who knows?
