Daily Fantasy Lesson: DFS Value, Ownership & Semi-chalk

DFS NBA

Value Day

Simple challenge for the day, if you have someone you love and appreciate then surprise them with something that symbolizes love the day after valentine’s day. This will help show the people you love how much you value them. Disclaimer: Stay away from discounted V-day things though (Cheapskate!)

Refresher

Heart symbol - Wikipedia

In part one, we introduced the concept of Semi-chalk. In short, it consists of players that are slightly below chalk play ownership. Short Slates demonstrate the possibility of being the best slates to attack with Semi-chalk as they consist of a smaller field, which elevates overall ownership of each player. The specific barrier that exists in short slates is being able to identify lower owned value plays. Therefore, the smaller the slate, the easier it is to predict ownership of individual players.

DFS Equity

Equity is the evening of the playing field for players. For example, playing a person much better than you in a game and starting with a 10 point advantage.

Picking a Slate

Preparing for tonight’s NHL 9pm Slate, it is observed that the slate consists of a sample of 3 games. Thinking back to the concepts of chalk and semi-chalk, you can now see this slate is a great one in which to practice Semi-Chalk strategy with as it contains less games, thus making ownership more concentrated. While the ownership projections for tonight are not posted, it will benefit our work to speak through the process that will be used tonight.

Creating Equity and Finding Value

You decide to play hockey tonight, but you do not understand a thing about the sport. Well, it is great that you are reading this article because we have a simple semi-chalk strategy using the Domination Station that will ensure you can compete in all sports regardless of background in the sport. Below you will find a quick step by step to help get started using semi-chalk:

    1. Find an SE to enter with 1,500 or less contestants
    2. Look at highest ownership
    3. Divide by 2 to get semi-chalk number
    4. Use 10% above and below the semi-chalk number as your semi-chalk play
    5. Look for 3 Chalk Plays, 3 Semi-chalk plays, and 1-3 GPP Plays

But NHL is correlative??

As we were discussing in the discord recently, NHL is not the best sport to provide an example with of Semi-Chalk as the sport is highly volatile and correlation dependent most nights. However, I modify NHL Semi-Chalk rules in that I look for 1 stud chalk play, and then I stack that player with 2 teammates on the same line. Furthermore, I will do the same thing with a semi-chalk player then make a stack of 3 with his teammates. Finally, in my 3rd stack, I have been using another semi-chalk player and building from there.

By using semi-chalk for two stacks and chalk for 1, I have found myself along with the field enough to get into min cash with enough differentiation to possibly take the tournament (No cigar quite yet).

Did I Spark an Idea in Life or DFS??

Come talk to me! I am in the discord 24/7 and value connecting with people. My goal for this is to make you better DFS picks while making your life better, too. Because, let’s face it, a million dollars is no good if you are a lonely old jerk.
