WNBA Strategy Picks for Today
Phoenix Mercury @ Atlanta Dream
The Mercury come into this game on a nine-game winning streak and battling for seeding. They face a poor Dream team, and even without Diana Taurasi should easily handle business here. If the two previous meetings are anything to go by, this game could be over by the end of the third quarter. Brittney Griner and Skylar Diggins-Smith will lead the way for the Mercury tonight. Griner is a beast down low, and the Dream are horrific defending forwards. Diggins-Smith is coming off a horrible performance and will look to bounce back tonight. She has crushed in this matchup this season and without Taurasi will pick up some more usage. Don’t sleep on Brianna Turner who has been not so quietly having a fantastic season. It is not out of the realm of possibility that she outperforms Griner tonight as she has done in this matchup this season. With Taurasi likely out, Kia Nurse could see increased usage tonight. The likes of Sophie Cunningham and Shey Peddy could see some more minutes tonight too.
The Dream are going to have a hard time tonight and it is hard to see them pulling off a win here. However, were it to happen it will be off the backs of Courtney William and Tiffany Hayes. These are the two players with excellent matchups you can target on the Dream with any degree of confidence. Williams has been great this season, being the sole bright spot on an otherwise poor team. She has averaged nearly 40 DKFPs in the two matchups against the Mercury this season and could put in another excellent performance tonight. Tiffany Hayes finally had a breakout game last time out and will look to build on that tonight. She can put up points in a hurry and has the ability to fill up the stat sheets. Monique Billings gets a tough matchup, and it is tough to see her performing in it. Odyssey Sims will get minutes but Hayes caps her upside.
5-Star Play: Brittney Griner, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Courtney Williams
4-Star Play: Brianna Turner, Tiffany Hayes
GPP Sleeper: Kia Nurse
Deep Value: Sophie Cunningham
Minnesota Lynx @ Las Vegas Aces
The Lynx carry a five-game winning streak into Vegas to face the Aces in what is a battle for the second seed in the playoffs. Given the remainder of their schedule, a win here for the Lynx puts them in prime position to end up as the second seed. They get a boost with the Aces being without Liz Cambage tonight. Sylvia Fowles will be the focal point of the Lynx offense and defense tonight. In the previous two games this season, Fowles has averaged 50.1 DKFPs (this includes a 70 DKFPs effort). You can be sure she’ll bring it tonight. Napheesa Collier has been fantastic against the Aces this season and makes for a solid 1-2 punch with Fowles. The Aces will have a hard time stopping them tonight. With Layshia Clarendon likely to miss this game, Kayla McBride is in prime position to continue her fine form as her usage continues to remain high and she takes more shots. Aerial Powers looks to have moved past the rust and is now in fine form for the Lynx as well.
This is an important game for the Aces, but they’ll have to do it without Liz Cambage. On the bright side, they’ll get back Dearica Hamby tonight, which will make them more competitive against the Lynx. To pull off a much-needed win here, A’ja Wilson will have to play at an MVP level. This is easier said than done against the Lynx defense, but she has averaged 41 DKFPs against them this season. It is not a good matchup for the aforementioned Hamby, but her team will need her tonight. On the guard side, Kelsey Plum, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young all bring something to the table tonight. The matchup is not the best for either of them, but they are all viable options tonight and will need to be at their best to pull off a win.
5-Star Play: Sylvia Fowles, Napheesa Collier
4-Star Play: A’ja Wilson, Kayla McBride, Aerial Powers
GPP Sleeper: Kelsey Plum
Deep Value: Aerial Powers
