WNBA Strategy Picks for Today
Los Angeles Sparks @ Indiana Fever
The Sparks are on a three-game losing streak and looking to rebound. Luckily, they face the worst team in the WNBA tonight. Nneka Ogwumike and Erica Wheeler are the key players to watch here. Erica Wheeler has been in solid form recently, putting up excellent numbers against a tough Connecticut Sun team in their last two games. She’ll look to continue that form here tonight, especially if Kristi Toliver ends up being unavailable. Nneka Ogwumike on the other hand has struggled mightily this season. However, she is the star of this team and has shown glimpses of her former self in a few games. This is a perfect matchup for her to demonstrate her skills. Brittney Sykes and Nia Coffey remain value options in a pinch for the Sparks.
The Fever have had a horrid season. Given the Sparks latest skid, the Fever see an opportunity to pick up a win tonight at home. Danielle Robinson is questionable and will potentially miss this game. The return of Jantel lavender and the signing of Emma Canon could impact the minutes for Teaira McCowan if foul trouble doesn’t do her in. All this sets up a scenario where it is hard to confident with any Fever player tonight. The best options here remain Kelsey Mitchell, Victoria Vivians, and Tiffany Mitchell who will all have secured minutes. In GPPs, you can take a shot on McCowan but beware of the risks.
5-Star Play: None
4-Star Play: Erica Wheeler
GPP Sleeper: Victoria Vivians
Deep Value: Tiffany Mitchell
Connecticut Sun @ Washington Mystics
The Sun carry their eight-game winning streak into Washington DC tonight to face the Mystics. Jonquel Jones absolutely loves the matchup against the Mystics, averaging 53.8 DK Fpts in the previous two matchups this season. With Tina Charles out and Elena Delle Donne questionable, the only thing you need to worry about here with JJ is that she doesn’t play full minutes due to a blowout. Brionna Jones has been phenomenal over the past 3 games, outperforming JJ in fantasy terms in that span. She gets to play even in blowouts, making her an excellent option on this slate. DeWanna Bonner continues to be a star and can take over a game at any time she chooses. Jasmine Thomas rounds up the list as a solid cash game option on the slate.
The Mystics will be without Tina Charles tonight and likely Elena Delle Donne as well. They’ll have their hands full trying to contain the league-leading Sun tonight. Myisha Hines-Allen and Theresa Plaisance will be called upon to carry the load with the absence of their star forwards, but it is a brutal matchup and one should not expect much from it. Both players will make for good GPP options, in the hope that they somehow have a breakout game in a bad spot and are low-owned. On the guard front, Ariel Atkins has enjoyed success against the Sun this season and will look to continue that. Natasha Cloud is always an option due to her strong defensive abilities.
5-Star Play: Jonquel Jones
4-Star Play: Brionna Jones, DeWanna Bonner, Ariel Atkins
GPP Sleeper: Myisha Hines-Allen
Deep Value: Theresa Plaisance
New York Liberty @ Minnesota Lynx
Natasha Howard gets another chance to play against her former team, this time in Minnesota. Howard put up 30 raw points in the last meeting and will look to build on that tonight. Rebecca Allen has been solid for the Liberty since the Olympic break and will look to continue that form tonight. On the guard front, Sami Whitcomb is questionable to play tonight. If she misses the game, Betnijah Laney and Sabrina Ionescu will have to carry a heavier load tonight for the Liberty to win. Ionescu has had great success against the Lynx this season, while Laney has struggled.
The Lynx have fought their way towards the top of the standings after a slow start to the season, and are currently chasing a first-round bye in the playoffs. Sylvia Fowles has been phenomenal this season and while we should not expect the 71 DK Fpts outburst we got from her last game, the matchup is a good one for her tonight. Napheesa Collier has been very quiet recently but was exceptional in her only game against the Liberty this season. On the guard front, Layshia Clarendon makes for a solid option running the offense for the Lynx, while Kayla McBride always carries potential as a GPP option.
5-Star Play: Sylvia Fowles, Napheesa Collier, Sabrina Ionescu, Natasha Howard
4-Star Play: Betnijah Laney, Layshia Clarendon, Rebecca Allen
GPP Sleeper: Kayla McBride
Deep Value: Aerial Powers
Chicago Sky @ Phoenix Mercury
Candace Parker and the Sky take on the Mercury in what should be a fun hammer game. Parker has been all over the place this season, mixing in exceptional performances with incredibly poor outings. With Brittney Griner questionable tonight for the Mercury, this could be one of those exceptional nights for Parker. Courtney Vandersloot remains one of the best point guards in the league and has consistently demonstrated that this season. She has been excellent in the previous meetings this season against the Mercury and will look to continue that here. Allie Quigley has cooled down after the hot run she had recently and remains a GPP play on the hopes she gets hot shooting.
The Mercury could be without Brittney Griner which will severely impact their game plan. If Griner plays, she is obviously in a fantastic matchup and one of the top options on the slate. Without Griner, Skylar Diggins-Smith will be called upon to carry a heavy load. She has been phenomenal over the past 5 games and has 50 fpts upside in this matchup. Diana Taurasi will see increased usage as well without Griner and makes for a solid option. Brianna Turner could be in for a heavy workload at forward tonight in a plus matchup with Kia Vaughn likely to step in to fill the shoes for Griner.
5-Star Play: Skylar Diggins-Smith, Candace Parker, Courtney Vandersloot
4-Star Play: Diana Taurasi, Brianna Turner
GPP Sleeper: Allie Quigley
Deep Value: Kia Vaughn
