WNBA Strategy Picks for Today
Chicago Sky @ Dallas Wings
Candace Parker has been all over the place since returning from injury. She has showcased her massive upside but has also produced some duds. The matchup against the Wings is as good as it can get for her though and she has favorable road-home splits working for her here. In the backcourt, Courtney Vandersloot continues to be a solid cash play with a strong floor, however, her upside is very inconsistent, and she also has unfavorable home-road splits going into this matchup. Kahleah Copper and Diamond DeShields round up the top options here. They both have good upside, but their floor is a little low.
The Wings are fully healthy and while this makes them a strong team, it does affect DFS decisions. Only two players really stand out for consideration, Arike Ogunbowale, and Satou Sabally. Arike carries 45+ upside into this matchup and we will expect her to shoot a lot here to keep her team in the game. Satou has been playing well recently, putting up back-to-back 30+ fpts performances. Both will be relied on heavily tonight. The rest of the team faces issues with minutes and consistency. Marina Mabrey, Allisha Gray, Kayla Thornton, and Isabelle Harrison can have good games, but it is hard to predict with them.
5-Star Play: Candace Parker, Arike Ogunbowale
4-Star Play: Satou Sabally, Courtney Vandersloot
GPP Sleeper: Kahleah Copper
Deep Value: Allisha Gray
Minnesota Lynx @ Phoenix Mercury
Sylvia Fowles has been on a tear over the last few games for the Lynx, culminating in two 65+ fpts efforts in her last 2 games. The Lynx have needed every bit of this performance from her and will need more of it tonight if they want to beat the Mercury. That said, this is a tough matchup for Fowles against Griner. Napheesa Collier will be called on here by the Lynx to carry the weight tonight and she’ll be more than happy to step up. In the backcourt, Layshia Clarendon has been a godsend for the Lynx, even as Kayla McBride continues to struggle. Both will be called upon here tonight.
For the Mercury, it all begins with Brittney Griner in her matchup against Fowles. In the first meeting this season, Griner got the better performance and she’ll look to repeat that here tonight. Diana Taurasi returned last game after a long exit and immediately got back into her great form; she’ll look to be a thorn in the side of the Lynx tonight as she was in the first meeting. While Taurasi’s return negatively affects Skylar Diggins-Smith, it could have the opposite effect for Brianna Turner, opening up space for Turner to shine.
5-Star Play: Brittney Griner, Napheesa Collier, Sylvia Fowles, Diana Taurasi
4-Star Play: Brianna Turner, Layshia Clarendon
GPP Sleeper: Kayla McBride
Deep Value: Damiris Dantas
Las Vegas Aces @ Los Angeles Sparks
It’s the A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage show for the Aces. Wilson is usually the better option due to her consistency, but Cambage carries massive upside. In this matchup, Wilson is preferred due to the minutes’ situation. There is a blowout risk here tonight, which opens Dearica Hamby as an excellent option on the slate. In the backcourt, Chelsea Gray gets another opportunity to punish her former team. In the first meeting, she went for 38+ fpts, look for something similar tonight. The likes of Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young will play a ton of minutes tonight.
The Sparks are still without the Ogwumike sisters, leaving it up to Amanda Zahui B and Nia Coffey to carry the load in the frontcourt. If this game stays close, it will be due to these two players. The matchup is not the best, but they’ll have to play at their best to keep it close. Erica Wheeler and Britney Sykes have been playing extremely well and will look to keep that going. Kristi Toliver is currently questionable and if she can’t suit up, look to Te’a Cooper to pick up the slack.
5-Star Play: A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray
4-Star Play: Erica Wheeler, Britney Sykes, Liz Cambage, Dearica Hamby, Kelsey Plum
GPP Sleeper: Dearica Hamby
Deep Value: Jackie Young
