Pocono Raceway

Another week where all three series will share the same track.  This time around they will head to the Tricky Triangle of Pocono Raceway. This week there will be a pair of races for the Cup Series. Saturday we will see a 130 lap race followed by a 140 lap race on Sunday. Pocono is different than any other track that NASCAR goes to. It is 2.5 miles in length with extremely long straightaways. The track has three corners which are all completely different from each other. We saw passing was very difficult here last season so I expect lots of strategy plays on pit road for teams to help gain positions on the track. Cup teams will use the same car both days.  If a team has to go to a backup car for Sunday, they will start at the rear for that race. We willl have no practice or qualifying so we will lean heavily on past track history and recent 2021 stats to help build out lineups. All that information and more will be available in the DFSA Research Station.

NASCAR Cup Series DFS Outlook

Pocono always sets up for one main dominator. Of course, the world will be expecting Kyle Larson to be that guy this week starting from pole. Hendrick was strong here last year so and they have improved greatly over that speed in 2020 so that is a reasonable expectation. The first race has two top tier place diff plays in Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney. Both will certainly see huge ownership. In a race with such few laps, it could be beneficial to not play Larson or any “Dominator” but instead play these two drivers who can score 60+ without ever leading a lap. This is especially viable on FanDuel where there are limited dominator points. Also, Elliott and Blaney were both underpriced for the slate and make lineup building easy. Pocono often sets up for some pit strategy mid-race which could shake some things up. My expectation is that the Chevy teams will have a big advantage this week due to their apparent horsepower advantage.

Xfinity Series Quick Race Facts

Xfinity Series

Date: June 27th

Race: Sunday 12:00 pm ET.

Laps: 90

Stages:  20/40/90

NASCAR Xfinity Series DFS Outlook

We have a super interesting Xfinity DFS slate this week. Only 90 laps has me building lineups as if dom points don’t matter. I am looking for top 5 finishers and any place differential points they can add would be amazing. Cindric and Gibbs stand out in this aspect. Berry will be chalk but it is important to remember he is in the 31 this week which realistically should not have the same upside as the #8 he has been driving this year. Sam Mayer now takes over the #8 JRM car for the rest of the year. There are big expectations for him. You are essentially looking to play the top 2-3 drivers who will finish top 3. Naturally, they will lead a few laps and will be the top scorers. There were only 60 green flag laps last year and 65 the year before that. Both races were variance and caution filled. Hopefully a small sample oddity and not a Pocono trend.

Truck Series Quick Race Facts

Date: June 26th

Race: Saturay 12:00 pm ET.

Laps: 60

Stages:  15/30/60

NASCAR Truck Series DFS Outlook

Incredibly short race for the Truck series this week. We saw an absolute shitshow of an event last year with half the race being run under yellow. Cautions happened on the first or second lap for three straight runs to start the race. Technically 4 if you count the stage break. It was possibly the stupidest race I have ever played and set up for a ridiculous slate. Before last year this race at Pocono was relatively tame. 2018 actually saw zero natural cautions. I am expecting a calm race this time around but the Truck Series is known for dumb drivers doing dumb things… Any place differential points you can score while picking the top finishers is key. Just play the best of the best in the series and you should be alright as long as we don’t get a carnage filled race.
