Indianapolis Motor Speedway
For the first time in the history of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a NASCAR sanctioned race will take place on the road course. The Xfinity Series will be running the 14-turn, 2.41-mile road course. Due to this being the first time the series has raced on the Indy road course, there will be two practice sessions on Friday afternoon. Both practices will be 55 minutes in length and can be watched through the NBCSports app. These practices will be massive for getting a feel of how the track will race and who will be good come race time on Saturday. Again, no qualifying for the series so the starting lineup will be based on points.

DFS Race Preview
Incredibly short race for the Xfinity Series this week. That means we have very few dominator points at our disposal. We should be looking at a total of 40-42 dominator points available for this race. At most I will be playing 2 potential dominators. We should expect strategy to come into play for this race as teams can easily pit under green without losing a lap. Teams will try to set themselves up to be out front for the final stage. Since there are so few dom points available we should truly be focusing on place differential points. Lots of good options will be starting in the back of the field with big upside. I would recommend taking a few shots on low ownership plays because this will be a rather chalk filled race. The most likely path to a big hit will be through hitting on a low ownership play while avoiding a couple of chalk drivers having issues.
If you are new to NASCAR check out this article I wrote explaining lineup creation!
Race Procedure
Pit selection:
- Order based on finishing position from the June 28th race at Pocono, followed by new entries in order of points.
Starting lineup:
- Starting Positions 1-10: Random draw of teams in those positions in owner points
- Positions 11-21: Random draw of teams in those positions in owner points
- Positions 22-32: Random draw of teams in those positions in owner points
- Any vehicles that are eligible for the Event in position 33rd – 40th will be assigned starting positions based on their order of eligibility.
Favorite Top Tier Play: AJ Allmendinger
AJ is a road course specialist in elite equipment and will be starting in the rear of the field. He won the most recent Xfinity Series road course race at Charlotte and is one of the top 3 contenders for the win for this race. Allmendinger is the clear best play of the race since he has so many place differential points available. He is a must in cash and for me is a near lock in GPP. He should be the highest owned driver on the slate. I am picking him for the win because of the technical aspect of this track.
Favorite Value Play: Tommy Joe Martins
This is the low ownership play I will be utilizing the most. People just do not trust him, not that I blame them, but his upside is fantastic. If the car holds up then TJM should finish inside the top 20 and score well. There will be a few clear chalk plays and I will be using Martins to get away from those drivers and to differentiate myself from the pack.
