After a huge 12 game slate last night, we get a very manageable 4 gamer today. It’s not an easy puzzle to solve, though, and will make it very important you VIPs come in and out of slack all day as we talk about the evolutions our minds will take trying to solve this baby. Columbus is lead dog in the sled, though. And, I don’t see that changing…
NHL Advice – Goalies
Sergei Bobrovski – The BOB takes to the twine tonight coming off his illness and anchoring this team on a back to back. At a -200 from Vegas, he’s your cash leader. Detroit isn’t much, and is on a back to back of their own. Bob is 6-4 in his last 10 with 3 duds. However, he also has 6 games over 20 FD points and 4 over 30. A bit up and down, but Vegas and I both think he’s safe tonight.
Kari Lehtonen – The more I looked at Devan Dubnyk, the more I didn’t like him on the road, in a 6 total game, and only offering $100 savings off Bob. If I’m going off Bob, I’m going to need to save money tonight, so enter Lehtonen. 5-3 in his last 8 (2 no decisions don’t count) with 2 duds, but 6 games at 20+ FD points and 4 with 30+, one of which was a shutout. If Dubs was at home, he’d likely be my cash lead, but instead, he falls completely off my list tonight. I hope I don’t regret that.

DFS NHL Picks – Centers
Pierre Luc-DuBois (CBJ – $5700) – Affordable and centering a hot line in a great spot tonight. Lock him in, and just take his 2/8/25 in production. Stack him with linemates to really correlate those points. I wouldn’t be offended if you took Lehtonen simply so you can drop 4 Jackets in your lineups tonight. I feel they are going to be that important.
Matt Duchene (OTT – $5900) – I can’t believe I’m going back to the well on a back to back with him, but I am. His 3/4/29 is just too affordable right now. He allows me to pop in and out of the Sens offense tonight as a one-off and have a huge chunk of what could happen. CGY gives up goals with several lines and I want to be there when they do.
Tyler Seguin (DAL – $8300) – I’m wavering back and forth on Seguin’s importance tonight. I will have DuBois, but am looking at Staal, Duchene and even Backlund. Seguin likely has the best floor/ceiling combo, and my head tells me I should just start there and build around him, but with what? His lines messier than my teenager’s bedroom, Hitchcock is playing Andy Reid (NFL players will get that joke) again, and I just can’t pair him with anyone I like. ANA1 is weak defensively right now, and Seguin will be on the ice facing them 72% of the time based on their Feb 21 matchup. 7/4/45 isn’t anything to sneeze at; however, $8300 is. This is a tough call tonight. He’s probably a lock to score tonight, I just feel I’m going to need to counter that with the assist or I’ll fall behind other lineups, even in cash games.
What Our VIPs Are Saying About Learning DFS NHL
Christy showed me a lineup yesterday and was asking about playing cash games. She had quite a few skaters from the same team, and I immediately recommended she swap a couple of them out for skaters on another team for safety. That originally overweight game fell flat, and her swap was the right call. As a result, she more than tripled up on the night and went to sleep a very happy camper. That’s what our coaching does for players……helps teach them where they might be taking too much risk for their contests. Christy is now on her way to becoming a shark after YOUR money!!
NHL DFS Winning Tips – Dealing with Variance Once and For All
NHL Strategy – Forwards / Wings
Anthony Mantha (DET – $5200) – This price is ridiculous for Mantha’s 4/3/29 and also catching CBJ on a back to back night. DET has been scoring lately and Mantha has been a decent part of it. I’m primarily using him to run back my CBJ stacks because if CBJ needs to keep their feet on the gas, Mantha is likely having a good game on the flipside.
Artemi Panarin (CBJ – $7400) – I’m calling the jinx right now. I have been favoring Atkinson’s price over Panarin’s production for weeks. I can’t deny it on a short slate like tonight. Panarin is more likely to net a goal than Atkinson, but both can and neither is really wrong. I will likely have the money freed up to pay up, and I plan to do just that. But, I’m warning you, I’m forcing him into lineups and that’s usually my kiss of death on the slate. You might want to go OppoChoppo and fade him for Atkinson.
Jason Zucker (MIN – $6800) – So many other names to mention tonight, but on a 4 game slate, you need to do some of the research yourself. I’m mentioning Zucker because he seems to be the other winger I’m just jamming into my lineups as part of a Wild stack or all alone as a one-off. I love the shot advantage MIN has tonight in Vancouver, and I also love the fact that MIN1 keeps scoring outside of the occasional dud. 6/8/33 is almost identical to Panarin, for less money, and these are among 4 skaters producing like this from the wings on this slate. The other two aren’t in great matchups, either.

NHL DFS Advice – Defensemen
Seth Jones (CBJ – $5700) – Did I mention you might want to stack Blue Jackets tonight? Well, you have my stack now. DuBois/Panarin/Jones and I plan to add in Boone Jenner for 2nd line coverage. That’s how much I think we will need CBJ skaters. I’ll run that in cash games, too, where I almost never run 4man stacks. It’s not safe. But, spreading out tonight isn’t looking optimal and if I want to blow away my head to head opponents, I will need to overwhelm them in the offense I think is most likely to score and leave them scrapping for crumbs or afraid to take the same level of risk tonight. Having the balls to shove your chips in the middle when the book tells you not to is how you go from good to great. I have the desire to be great. Do you?
Dougie Hamilton (CGY – $5600) – If I can find a way to force this dog in with everything else I’m planning tonight, I will. His 6/4/48 is a little backloaded, but he will factor into scoring most games when Calgary puts up crooked numbers. Cash safe, and in a solid matchup. I like Jones more tonight for some reason, but I want Hamilton next.
Matt Dumba (MIN – $4700) – I’d rather have Suter or Spurgeon, but won’t hesitate to take the discount and Dumba. 0/6/45 isn’t terrible for the price, and I might need it if I reach for Seguin or really force Panarin in tonight. You will need value somewhere and this is usually a solid spot to grab it.
